CALENDAR September 2025 T H E FA L L C A L E N D A R : Welcome Back! The Arts: Essential to Education National Arts Education Week is in September, but the arts' transformative powers can be celebrated yearlong. In addition to teaching the arts, let leaders and decision-makers know the need to support equitable arts access for students of all backgrounds. Learn more at americansforthearts.org. Isabella Juarez-Padilla, Corona del Mar High School, National PTA 2024–2025 Outstanding Interpretation awardee for "Unapologetically Imperfect." International Day of Peace SEPT. 21 The International Day of Peace ("Peace Day ") is observed around the world each year on Sept. 21. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace. Look for Peace Day activities in your own community and around the world at internationaldayofpeace.org/get-involved. Teach the Labor Movement Labor Day come and gone? NP! Lessons about workers rights and labor unions are more important than ever — issues such as fair wages and safe working conditions are ongoing battles — and are relevant all year long. Unions have made possible many employee benefits, including the 40-hour workweek, paid time off, sick leave and workplace safety, and continue to fight. Find resources at pbslearningmedia.org, zinnedproject.org and learningforjustice.org. Your union has advocated for educators' (and students') rights since our founding in 1863 — years before the Labor Day holiday was established in 1894. 7 S E P T E M B E R 2 0 2 5 In the Know
