The month encourages schools to teach students about the labor movement's role in shaping California and the nation. Educators can focus on celebrating work- ers' contributions, collective struggle, worker rights and the history of labor activism. Students should understand how and why their rights as workers came to exist — protections not guaranteed by the original Constitution but won by previous generations of activists.
