Fall 2026 Invest in Peace Use the International Day of Peace (Sept. 21) as a starting point to teach students to give their time to help others, lend their voice to drive positive change, and host youth-led conversations on solutions. Peace is more than the absence of war; it is the lived experience of safety, dignity, opportunities and cooperation in our daily lives. This year 's theme: "Invest in Peace — For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day." internationaldayofpeace.org Reflections From 9/11 Patriot Day honors the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, as well as the bravery of the first responders. Worth a visit year-round, the Cali- fornia 9/11 Memorial in Clovis offers an educational, reflective exhibit and annual ceremony and is the largest of its kind in the U.S. outside of New York City. The Clovis tribute involves local students and educators through art and poetry competitions. california911memorial.com Teach the Labor Movement L A B O R D A Y (Sept. 7) has passed, but lessons about workers' rights and labor unions are relevant all year long. Unions have made possible multiple employee benefits, including the 40-hour workweek, paid time off, sick leave and worker safety — many of which remain ongoing bat- tles. Find resources at pbslearningmedia.org, zinnedproject.org and learningforjustice.org. Our union has advocated for educators' — and students' — rights since our founding in 1863. 7 F A L L 2 0 26 In the Know
