CALENDAR August / September 2022 Welcome Back TO A N E W Y E A R ! Hispanic Heritage Month "Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation" is the 2022 theme of Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15-Oct. 15. The month celebrates multiple events: Sept. 15 is the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicara- gua. Mexico and Chile's independence days are Sept. 16 and 18, respectively. Día de la Raza is on Oct. 12. Labor unions have long fought for workers' rights; CTA has advocated for educa- tors' and students' rights since our founding in 1863. Teach students about labor unions – find resources at pbslearningmedia.org, zinnedproject.org and learningforjustice.org. Labor Day SEPT. 5 This year, the theme of the United Nations Inter- national Day of Peace is "End Racism. Build Peace." Get your students involved in activities that honor the day - these can include planting peace poles, service to others, a minute of silence/moment of peace at noon in all time zones, and more.
