Thousands of School Board Seats Up This Election When we walk , we win! Electing school board members who value and respect educators and unions, and who will work with us to strengthen public education is critical to our fight for the public schools all students and communities deserve. Local unions are making recommendations for these elections that could determine the resources and support our students and educators get for the next four years. Be a part of the team that brings it home for our kids and communities — contact a local leader today to find out how you can help win on Election Day and visit cta.org/YesOn3 to join teachers in your area in talking with folks about just what 's at stake! • Increased mental health staffing to support the needs of our students and communities. • Smaller class sizes so teachers can give every student the attention they deserve. • Support for experienced educators who return to the classroom year after year. • Multiple pathways to success, including college, vocational training, apprenticeships and career technical education. Visit cta.org/barrera to learn more about Barrera and help elect him as our next state schools chief! Our union is also recommending Xavier Becerra to be the next California Governor — see a full slate of endorse- ments for state and legislative offices at cta.org/election. A state superintendent for all of us Our work also continues to elect a strong public educa- tion and union advocate, Richard Barrera, our endorsed candidate for Superintendent of Public Instruction (SPI). Barrera has devoted his life to fighting for working peo- ple. As president of the San Diego Unified School Board, where he has served for the last 18 years, he turned one of California's largest school districts into one of the highest performing in the country — by working with teachers to invest in students and classrooms. Barrera has committed to prioritize: • Fully funded classrooms in every neighborhood, including higher salaries and great health care for educators to address the statewide teacher shortage. Richard Barrera: Camille Butts, center, is an Association of Colton Educators member running for school board in Rancho Cucamonga. 20 cta.org Feature
