Voters overwhelmingly supported California teachers’ concerns or endorsements. In fact, of the 42 local school bond and parcel tax measures where CTA provided some campaign funding at the request of local ed- ucators, 39 were passed by voters, a success rate of 93 percent. “Up and down the state,” said Sanchez, “voters approved local bonds, showing that they are willing to invest in music and arts programs, libraries, athlet- ics, smaller class sizes, and mod- ernized classrooms. In addition, many school board members who support teachers and stu- dents were elected.” CTA ballot CTA also supported a number of state legislative and congressio- nal candidates. In three hotly con- tested races, CTA members helped to elect pro-education candidates Manuel Perez in Assembly Dis- trict 80 and Joan Buchanan in As- sembly District 15, and re-elect Jerry McNerney to Congress in the 11th district.
