Sept. 8–14 is a splendid time to embrace the transformative
power of the arts — a core academic subject that includes
disciplines such as music, dance, theater, media arts, literature,

Patriot Day SEPT. 11
Patriot Day pays tribute to first responders and
the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in
the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. While not a
federal holiday, it is a National Day of Service
and Remembrance, with many memorials
planned in California.
