Welcome Back to School!
International
Day of Peace
SEPT. 21
In a world with rising geopolitical
tensions and protracted conflicts, it's
urgent that we take action. Find ways
for you and your students to participate
at internationaldayofpeace.org/
get-involved. Students should learn
that peace includes human rights and
fundamental freedoms, and adherence
to justice, democracy, tolerance,
solidarity and cultural diversity at all
levels of society.
AUG. 26
The day celebrates the 19th
Amendment, passed in 1920, which
guarantees American women the
right to vote. Today, we continue the
fight for pay equity, women's choice
and autonomy, and much more.
Talk to students about the meaning
of equality and the work needed
to achieve it. Find resources at
aclu.org (under "women's rights") and
nationalwomenshistoryalliance.org.
SEPT. 2
On this Labor Day, let us come together to celebrate working people
everywhere, the freedom to join unions and the transformative
power of labor organizations. CTA has advocated for educators' (and
students') rights since our founding in 1863. Teach students about the
importance of labor unions — find resources at pbslearningmedia.org,
zinnedproject.org and learningforjustice.org. And don't forget to
share why you're proud to be Union! Find social media graphics at
cta.org/awareness-events/labor-day; use the hashtags #WeAreCTA and
#LaborDay on X and Instagram, and tag us on Facebook to let us know.
