Away With the TPA I'm currently struggling with the TPA and it has made me feel worse at my job than when I started. [Re: " Teacher Quality: A Better Way Than the TPA," Dec. 2023/Jan. 2024.] It's made me reconsider staying in California. I love teaching, but this state clearly doesn't act like it needs more teachers. It wants me to teach to a script, lets me write the script, tells me I'm wrong and provides no support in what performance it wants to see. THOMAS JELENIEWICZ United Teachers of Richmond CTA is working to address the harmful TPAs this legislative cycle. Take action at cta.org/tpa. Our Fight for Students and Educators CTA recently launched "Our Fight," a series of television ads designed to highlight the stories of teachers across the state and draw attention to the need for more school funding for our classrooms and communities. "We are the fifth largest economy in the world, yet we are failing to fully staff our schools, pay our teachers a living wage, and secure the resources every student deserves," said CTA President David Goldberg. "At CTA we refuse to see a future for our students defined by years of inadequate funding and cuts. Students and educators deserve more resources now and for years to come — not less." The ads share the stories of six CTA members in various positions and school districts throughout the state, showing that one thing they have in common is pride in being a union educator. You can view the 30-second spots at cta.org/ourfight. Read our story about these and more educators on page 13. 3 A U G U S T / S E P T E M B E R 2 0 24 U P F R O N T
